History of the Greenland Flag
The Greenland Flag, known locally as Erfalasorput ("Our Flag"), was officially adopted on 21 June 1985 and is a powerful symbol of Greenland's identity, heritage and growing self-government. Designed by Greenlandic artist and politician Thue Christiansen, the flag features a distinctive red and white circle set against matching horizontal bands. The colours reflect Greenland's long historical connection with the Kingdom of Denmark, while the design itself represents Greenland's unique Arctic landscape. The white elements symbolise the vast ice sheet and glaciers that cover much of the island, while the red represents the surrounding ocean and the warmth of the returning midsummer sun. Unlike the other Nordic nations, Greenland chose not to use the traditional Nordic cross, giving the Greenland Flag a unique appearance that reflects both its Inuit culture and its place within the wider Nordic region. Today, the Greenland Flag is proudly flown throughout Greenland as a symbol of national pride, culture and Arctic heritage.

Greenland lightweight flags are printed onto polyester fabric and offer a cost-effective solution for events and temporary displays. Sewn flags are manufactured from heavier woven polyester with individually sewn panels and are designed for long-term outdoor use.
Is this Lightweight Greenland Flag suitable for permanent outdoor use?

What material are the lightweight flags made from?

The design is printed onto one side of the fabric and visible in reverse on the back. This is the standard construction for lightweight printed flags and helps the flag fly freely in light winds.
Are lightweight flags waterproof?
Lightweight Greenland polyester flags are designed for outdoor use and will withstand normal weather conditions. However, prolonged exposure to strong winds and harsh weather will reduce the lifespan of any lightweight printed flag.
